Everyone in the group should follow the same Bible reading schedule so they all come to the meeting having read and reflected on the same parts of the Bible that week. We have a reading plan and devotional journal available to download here.

Anchor Groups can also help the members of the group by providing an opportunity for accountability and encouragement in the face of the many temptations common to all Christians. More information about Anchor Groups (also called Life Transformation Groups), including a list of accountability questions used in many groups, can be found here and here.

We are called to make disciples (life-long followers of Jesus) and not just converts. New believers should be encouraged to grow in their faith by joining a church family, reading the Bible daily (our reading plans and journals can help with this), praying regularly, and sharing the Gospel with others.

The best and most natural thing to do after helping someone to faith in Christ is to maintain an ongoing relationship with them so you can encourage them, answer their questions, and help them foster habits that will allow them to mature as a Christian.

Anchor Groups are a good way to facilitate this kind of one-to-one or small group discipleship. Barna Research studies indicate that most Christians stop growing after just two years. If a more mature Christian walks alongside of someone for that long, they would both be more likely to grow and continue growing.

If someone tells you that they are ready to give their life to Christ, help them verbalize their belief and trust in Jesus by leading them in a prayer like the following:

Father God, I need you in my life.
I believe you sent your son, Jesus, to die for my sins and then raised him from the dead.
I have sinned and I am truly sorry. Please forgive me.
I receive your gifts of forgiveness and eternal life.
I surrender my life to you and give you full control.
Send your Holy Spirit to help me serve you from now on.
Thank you for welcoming me into your family and giving me a new start.
In the name of Jesus, amen.

The exact words don't matter. What is important is that the words reflect a true desire to turn from sin, to follow Jesus as Lord, and to trust the crucified and risen Jesus alone for forgiveness and salvation.
