Our next baptism is Sunday, January 29, during our 10 AM Celebration Service. If you would like to be baptized, publicly declaring your new life in Christ and His cleansing work in your heart, please attend our next baptism class.

Water baptism is an important step in your Christian walk. If you have trusted Christ for your salvation but have not been baptized, make plans to do so as soon as possible.

Here are answers to some common questions about baptism adapted from "Baptism: An explanation of believer baptism and refutation of contrary beliefs" by Pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church in Seattle.

Q: What is baptism?

A: Baptism is the Christian act of immersing a believer under water and then bringing them forth out of the water. It is a practical representation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as the person being baptized is plunged beneath the waters and brought forth in the same way that Jesus was buried in the earth and resurrected on their behalf in forgiveness of their sins (Romans 6:1-10; Colossians 2:12). Baptism identified a Christian with Jesus (Acts 10:48; Romans 6:3; Galatians 3:27), the universal church (1 Corinthians 12:13), and the local church (Acts 2:41).

Q: Why should Christians be baptized?

A: Jesus commanded that all Christians be baptized (Matthew 28:19). His apostles also commanded that all Christians be baptized (Acts 2:38). Therefore, Christians should be baptized because their God and His servants command it.

Q: Who should be baptized?

A: First, John the Baptizer required that people repent of sin before they could be baptized (Matthew 3:2, 6; Mark 1:4; Luke 3:3). Therefore, only Christians who have repented of sin should be baptized. Second, every baptism in the New Testament is preceded by repentance of sin and faith in Jesus (Acts 2:38-41; Acts 2:41; Acts 8:12; Acts 9:18-19; Acts 10:44-48; Acts 16:14-15, 40; Acts 16:29-36; Acts 18:8; Acts 19:1-7; Acts 22:16). Therefore, only Christians who have repented of sin and have trusted in Jesus should be baptized. Third, baptism is reserved solely for people who have put on Christ (Galatians 3:27). Therefore, only those who are Christians should be baptized. In summary, repentance of sin and faith in Jesus are the marks of a Christian. And all Christians are commanded to be baptized in order to identify themselves with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Subsequently, no one but a Christian should be baptized, and this excludes all non-Christians and children who are too young to demonstrate repentance and articulate faith.

Q: May I be baptized if I have previously been baptized?

A: Once someone has been baptized there is no need for him to be baptized again (Ephesians 4:5). The only exception to this is if someone was baptized as a non-Christian and desires to profess his faith and be baptized as a Christian (Acts 19:1-5). This exception would include people who were baptized in cults and heretical churches, as well as those baptized as infants at the request of their parents. We do not require that those who were baptized as children be re-baptized as believing adults, but leave this decision to the conscience of each Christian.

Q: Do members have to be baptized?

A: Since Jesus commands that all of his disciples be baptized, baptism is a requirement for all Grace Chapel members (Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38; Acts 10:48; 1 Peter 3:21). If you've already been baptized since you became a Christian, you don't need to get re-baptized.

Wednesdays at 6:30 PM
Grace Chapel

In a recent study, the Barna Research Group revealed a stunning statistic that continues to reverberate throughout the evangelical world. Only 9 percent of professing Christians have a biblical worldview.

Because of this, today's believers live very similarly to non-believers. A personal sense of significance is rarely experienced, we spend our money and time on things that fail to satisfy and we begin to wonder what life's ultimate purpose really is. We are, in short, losing our bearings as a people and a nation.

To counter this slide within the body of Christ, we are launching one of the most ambitious and powerful projects in the history of our ministry--Focus on the Family's The Truth Project.

The Truth Project is a DVD-based curriculum comprised of 13 one-hour lessons taught by Dr. Del Tackett. This study is the starting point for looking at life from a biblical perspective. Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the Christian worldview in daily life.

We believe this one project represents the possibility for exponential change within the body of Christ, as we expect that thousands will be transformed by this curriculum. As it has been throughout history, God continues to call ordinary people to make an eternal difference in our world.

We invite you to be a part of this cultural change by participating in The Truth Project with Grace Chapel.

What is the Table?
Church doesn't end just because the worship service is over. The Church is the people of Christ seeking God's kingdom, not just an event on Sunday morning. Prayer, service, study and fellowship are important aspects of faith that shouldn't be restricted to the hour we sit in a pew. That's what the Table is all about. It's a private social network, just for our church, that enables us to connect 24/7, not just on Sunday.

You might think, "I'm already on Facebook and Twitter, I don't need another social network." The Table isn't meant to replace these, but instead to complement them as a more intimate and private online space for our Grace Chapel family to engage with each other in ways that Facebook or Twitter can't do. For example...

Use our Prayer Wall to share prayer requests with others here at Grace Chapel and to respond to the requests of others. You can configure the Table to notify you when people from your campus or one of your groups (or anyone at Grace Chapel) have requested prayer and you can ask to be notified when people have prayed for you. You can even write a note of encouragement when you pray for a prayer request. You can also post prayer requests anonymously.

Browse the People and Groups Directory to find people and small groups that live or meet near you and who share your interests. Pictures allow you to recognize the person you've met on the Table who responded to your prayer request with an encouraging comment. A map view allows you to find people and groups around your neighborhood, and get in touch with them.

Use the Serve App to let the rest of your church family here at Grace Chapel know when you have a need or to find those who have needs that you might be able to help meet. Find volunteer opportunities or list items you are willing to share or give away to others at the church.

How do I join?
These are just some of the things you can do on the Table. We really hope you'll give it a try by signing up, filling out your profile with a photo and some getting-to-know-you info, and then checking out the Prayer Wall, the Serve App, and the Directory. You can sign up for the Table here.

What's next?
Now that you're on the Table, here are six things you can do to get started:

1. Get rid of that default photo and upload your own profile pic. This will help people learn who you are.
2. Fill out the About Me section of your profile with your interests, gifts and skills. This will help connect you with others at church.
3. Browse People and click over to the map view to find other people from church who live near you.
4. Go to the Prayer Wall and pray for a few of the prayer requests. When you click 'pray now' the person can be notified that you prayed for them--instant encouragement!
5. Go to the Serve App and post a need or see if there is a way you can share or volunteer.
6. Browse Groups and join a few. If you don't see a group for your ministry or interest, go ahead and start one.

Need help?
If you need help with the Table we have a couple ways we can help you out:

1. Contact Andrew by emailing acasteel@gchapel.net.
2. You can also check out the Table's help section.

The Table is our new online community at Grace Chapel. Pull up a chair!
